The College of Engineering is pleased to announce that alumnus Paul Stuverud, ’71 BSEE and ’76 MSEE, has made an additional $50,000 gift to the endowed scholarship fund “Paul Stuverud MESA Endowed Scholarship” he created in 2019.

Dr. Hassan Tavakol's, Civil Engineering undergraduate course, CIV E 444, has been showcased by the Cool4Ed initiative at the CSU Chancellor's Office, which is supported by the State of California (AB 798), the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation: https://www.merlot.org/merlot/viewSite.htm?id=9161456.

Students from local colleges and high schools with a Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Achievement (MESA) program shadowed engineering and science professionals virtually through Zoom or Microsoft Teams on November 19, 2020.

MESA asked and our alumni responded overwhelmingly! More than 20 SDSU MESA Alumni participated in MESA's Virtual Alumni Chat series for Fall 2020.

An interdisciplinary Senior Design Project Team consisting of ME students: Matthew Gonzalez, David Bunson, Krysta Rhodes, Jesus Figueroa; and ECE students: Jonathan Maravilla, Alan Clemenson, Brandon Mosburg, Ryan Marmion, and Humood Alghunaim as team members, is one of 12 teams from around the country selected to be semi-finalists in the NASA Moon to Mars Prospecting Challenge.

The J.R. Filanc Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) Program, which is part of the College of Engineering, is excited to offer the new Construction Management major in addition to the ABET-accredited and well-established Construction Engineering major, which will start in Fall 2021.

Dr. Matthew Verbyla (Environmental Eng.) and Lorelay Mendoza (B.S. Environmental Eng., class of 2019) recently published a paper in Environmental Engineering Science journal entitled Environmental Engineering for the 21st Century: Increasing Diversity and Community Participation to Achieve Environmental and Social Justice.

With such extensive impacts, COVID-19 awareness and understanding among the public has increased, while skepticism declined. SDSU scientists weigh in on the shift.

William Wiseman graduated with his BSME degree in May 2020. Dr. Shaffar recalls that Will was team leader for the Senior Design Project Team Salty Crew - the team that created the floating system that cleans plastics from the ocean, a project sponsored by Clear Blue Sean.
