Graduating engineering seniors presented their innovative projects at the College of Engineering Virtual Design Day, held on May 6, 2020, with over 2,000+ participants from around the country and abroad.

The research of Dr. Julio Valdes, Professor, SDSU Dept. of Civil, Construction & Environmental Engineering, has been featured in the New York Times.

The grant is for 1.9 million from the CEC over 3 years. Dr. Chris Mi, ECE, is the PI on the project and other co-PIs include Dr. Sridhar Seshagiri, ECE. The University of California San Diego, and University of California Riverside are collaborators on the project. The project seeks to develop and integrate commercial scale PV systems with reliable and cost effective, repurposed electric vehicle (EV) batteries.

This is a study in Dr. Karen May-Newman’s Cardiovascular Bioengineering Lab. The lab’s objective is to improve the lives of patients with heart diseases through innovative approaches to medical device design and integration. One of the device that the researchers in the lab study is left ventricular assist devices (LVADs).

He has taught every freshmen mechanical engineering student who has passed through the Department during the last quarter century. But, after 27 years of teaching, Professor Tom Johnston, Full-Time Lecturer in the Deparment since 2000, is retiring at the end of this academic year.

Carlos Gonzalez currently serves as the Regional Executive Officer & Sr. Vice President, Western Region South, for Clark Construction. Originally from Mexico City, Carlos' first memory of SDSU was walking across the footbridge on College Avenue and thinking how beautiful the campus was. This first impression led Carlos to enroll at SDSU in Fall 1994.

The College of Engineering is pleased to announce that Richard Woodcock, PhD, has made a $100K gift to the SDSU Rocket Project. Dr. Woodcock's support has enabled the Rocket Project to design and build the dual cryogenic Methalox fueled rocket named "Lady Elizabeth."

The College of Engineering is pleased to announce that an estate gift from Wayne and Mary Beitler Leutloff has been realized with an initial distribution of $2,748,126. Part of the distribution ($1M) is designated to name the Wayne E. and Mary Beitler Leutloff Student Innovation Center in the Engineering Interdisciplinary Sciences (EIS) Complex.

In just nine days, SDSU College of Engineering, Assistant Professor Kevin Wood and his Interface Design Lab team have designed and built a ventilator that may be able to be mass produced and supplied quickly to aid in the fight against COVID-19.
