Aerospace Engineering professor and Chair, Dr. Ping Lu, leads a project that will develop the method and algorithms for integrated optimal entry, descent, and landing (EDL) guidance for human Mars missions with pin-point precision.

Sixty years ago, the LSWT was formally certified. Since then the LSWT has been a unique and major facility of the SDSU Aerospace Engineering program, where generations of AE students gained hands-on experience in experimental aerodynamics and exciting research projects were carried out.

Congratulations to Mechanical Engineering senior Joseph Dawisha! Dawisha was selected as a participant in the Toyota Dream Endowment, a program for students of diverse backgrounds interested in a career in the automotive industry and motorsports.

Seven SDSU students were chosen for the CSU pre-doctoral award, allowing them to pursue opportunities to expand research and realize their dreams.

Scientific articles are currently published at a rate of almost 4 papers a minute. With so much new scientific information coming out of the world’s laboratories, the most common ways the community keeps up with the latest scientific information and breakthroughs is by following science sections of traditional news sites or more often, science focused social media posts such as blogs and tweets.

Kaustubh Khedkar (left) is currently a third year joint doctoral program student in the ME department. He received the 16th U.S. National Congress on Computational Mechanics conference award, which allowed him to present his on-going doctoral research at the congress held in Chicago (July 25 - 29, 2021). Kaustubh presented a novel method to implement a real-time control strategy within fully-resolved computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of wave energy converter (WEC) devices. Ramakrishnan Thirumalaisamy (right), a Ph.D. student who works with Dr. Amneet Bhalla in the Computational Fluid Dynamics and Flow Physics Laboratory, received the 16th U.S. National Congress on Computational Mechanics conference award at the congress held in Chicago (July 25 - 29, 2021).

American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers) Champion H. Mathewson Award is presented by The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) annually, and is considered an important career achievement.

The funding of $444, 000 for the project advances research capabilities at two HSI (NMSU, SDSU) in support of the NASA Artemis program with a focus on enhancing diversity and inclusion.

Dr. Karen May-Newman, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, led a new summer internship program in the College of Engineering for freshmen, sophomores and transfer students called WE-BELIEVE (WomEn and Black Empowered Learners Interning in Engineering EnVironmEnts). Dr. Zahra Nili Ahmadabadi and Dr. Elisa Torresani, Assistant Professors of Mechanical Engineering, served as Faculty mentors in the program.
