This National Engineers Week, we're highlighting five engineering student leaders across our college to showcase the work they're doing, the research they're conducting, and the impact they are making on both SDSU and the field of engineering.

SDSU Engineering PhD student Maricruz Carrillo talks about overcoming difficulties of being a graduate student and how she supplements her life/income with her passion project: Menos Waste.

Dr. Zahra Nili Ahmadabadi, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and director of Dynamic Systems and Intelligent Machines Lab (DSIM), was awarded a $250,000 grant from Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) for her project on developing a sound modeling system that enables physics-based machine learning models for sound source detection purposes.

The annual award for outstanding contributions will be presented at the All-University Convocation on Aug. 18.
