Recent ME Alum, Sulaiman Al-Tunaib, speaks at UN Climate Change Conference

Sulaiman Al-Tunaib, one of our featured Outstanding Graduates in the Spring 2017 Newsletter, represented the State of Kuwait at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP24) to talk about Kuwait’s initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint, one of which is through pledging to generate 15% of Kuwait’s electricity needs from renewable energy sources by 2030. Sulaiman currently works for the Kuwait National Petroleum Company as a Projects Engineer for the Al-Dibdibah Solar Project. This project will be the largest solar project in the world executed in one phase. It will have a power capacity of 1,500 MWac and will have an area of 32 sq. km. Sulaiman says that they expect to start construction this summer and have the project commissioned in early 2022.

Sulaiman also recently participated in MENA New Energy Conference, one of the top solar conferences, as a speaker and panelists, in Dubai at the end of March.
