Fall 2019 ME Senior Design Day
December 2019: Our Fall 2019 ME Senior Design Day took place on December 10, 2019 at Montezuma Hall in the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union. 24 ME Senior Design teams showcased their projects that they have been creating and working on since the beginning of the year.

Recent MEBioE graduate, Nikolas Marquez, selected as one of the 2019-2020 Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Public Policy Fellows
September 2019: Nikolas Marquez, who graduated with his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Bioengineering last May, was selected as a 2019-2020 Public Policy Fellow of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. The program's goal is to encourage hispanic students to be involved in public policy, as well as grow personally and professionally during their fellowship experience. Dr. Olevsky receives Best Paper Award from the Journal of the American Ceramic Society
August 2019: Dr. Olevsky received the Best Paper Award for the Journal of the American Ceramic Society for manuscripts accedpted for publication during 2018. Dr. Olevksy's paper titled "Energy efficient spark plasma sintering: breaking the threshold of large dimension tooling energy consumption" was selected as Best Paper, out of more than 800 paper published in JACerS in the past year.

Seminal Work on Capturing Circulating Cancer Cell Clusters Featured in the News
June 2019: Seminal work by Dr. Sam Kassegne and his students, and collaborators at Sanford Burnham Prebys, on capturing circulating cancer cell clusters has been featured in the scientific news by the American Institute of Physics (AIP), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and other outlets. The microfluidics chips used in the work were designed and fabricated in the Nanofab Lab at SDSU. Read more about the research at the links below:

Dr. Beyene and Dr. Camacho receive award from the Department of Energy
A Research Award from the Department of Energy entitled, “Solar Energy / Energy Storage Discharge Models and Analysis of Regional Electricity Utility Usage Based on Interval Data” was awarded to the SDSU Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) directed by Prof. Asfaw Beyene with assistance from Prof. Joaquin Camacho. The award includes $25K as a supplement to existing energy efficiency activities of the IAC.
