Andrew da Cunha Becomes New President of Aztec Electric Racing
Andrew da Cunha is a 4th year Undergraduate Student graduating as part of the class
of 2023. Originally from North San Diego county, Andrew has pursued a variety of practical
engineering projects during his collegiate career including five internships and a
total of four years of involvement with the Formula SAE programs at SDSU. Starting
his sophomore year, Andrew took on a leadership role as the Chassis lead for Aztec
Racing and eventually rose to the role of Chief Engineer his junior year. In preparation
for his senior year, Andrew pioneered the merging of Aztec Racing and Aztec Electric
Racing into a single Formula SAE Electric Team. In addition to Andrew’s commitments
to SDSU organizations, he has also taken on a variety of internships at several companies
across different sectors. At Northrop Grumman Andrew worked as a structures engineering
intern, a mass properties intern and a space composites manufacturing intern from
2019 to 2021. After moving from the Aerospace Industry to the Space Industry, Andrew
was able to make his way into the Automotive Industry as a Test Engineering Intern
with Rivian. Andrew hopes to use his practical experiences with Northrop Grumman and Rivian to
bring Aztec Electric Racing to its first successful competition season. After graduating, Andrew hopes to join the industry as a testing and validation engineer
working to help devise the next generation of technologies to reach consumers.
