MediMask Design Team Manufactures an Elastomeric Half-Mask Respirator
The MediMask design team is sponsored by Hiro PPE to design and manufacture an elastomeric half-mask respirator intended for healthcare workers while adhering to strict NIOSH/CDC requirements. Alongside industry professionals, the team has developed a removable filter cartridge that allows the user to replace the filter quickly if the mask were to be compromised. While maintaining filter efficiency, this design solves the problem of single-use medical-grade masks that are commonly used in medical environments today. The electrospun nanofiber filter material is cutting-edge technology that has not been widely implemented into commercial mask production and will promote breathability. Additionally, the mask houses two gas sensors that can detect the air quality being inhaled as well as the external surroundings of the mask. These two sensors are powered by a rechargeable battery (located on the rear of the mask) and offer wireless data transmission to the user via Bluetooth. On top of these technical requirements, comfortability is another priority as the mask is designed to be worn with minimal discomfort for an extended period of time.
