Graduating Senior: Audrey Meador
Audrey Meador is a Mechanical Engineering student with a Bioengineering Emphasis. On campus, she serves as the president of the Biomedical Engineering Society, works as a peer navigator for the Center for Student Success in Engineering, and is on the SDSU ski & snowboard team. Additionally, she is involved in research in the Cardiovascular Biomechanics Lab with Dr. Karen May-Newman. Audrey's research focuses on studying the cardiovascular flow effects in Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD) to reduce blood clot risks and improve patient outcomes, involving the fabrication of patient-specific aorta models used for imaging studies. I presented this research in a poster at the S3 conference this spring.
Audrey has two completed internships, one at ADVANCED motion controls, focusing on servo motor design, and another at Surgalign Spine Technologies, where she worked on Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence for surgical navigation in orthopedic surgery. After graduating, Audrey will start as a verification engineering intern at BD, a medical device company involved in a wide array of surgical and diagnostic instruments, and am going on to pursue a Master’s in Engineering with a Medical Device specialization at UCSD in the fall. Audrey's ultimate career goal is to be involved in the design and implementation of medical devices that have the potential to save lives and improve patient outcomes. SDSU has been an amazing place to hone my skills and advance towards my career path, and she is extremely grateful for the 4 years she has spent here.
