Sara Herrera Graduation

My name is Sara Herrera, and I started studying Mechanical Engineering at San Diego State University in the fall of 2019. Currently in my senior year, my favorite aspect of SDSU has been the array of clubs available and the school’s focus on professional development. I serve as the membership officer for the Society of Women Engineers and had the chance to attend the WE22 conference in Houston, TX, with other SWE members, where I networked with fellow women in engineering from all over the country. Last fall, I began working on a senior design project sponsored by Masimo, which involves developing an Automated UV-C Sanitizing Oven. Our team’s project aims to streamline the sanitization process for products by increasing throughput with the addition of an extra door, strategically placed UV-C light bulbs, removable trays, and HMI controls. After I graduate this May, I plan to continue my academic journey by studying Bioengineering at SDSU. Ultimately, my goal is to work in the medical device industry and make a positive impact on people’s lives. I am very excited to see what this future holds for me, and grateful for the experience SDSU has given me.
