Jessica Grear Graduation

Jessica is a mother of three and a Marine Corps veteran who transferred to SDSU in Fall of 2020 to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering with an Emphasis in Bioengineering. Her personal experiences and losses have encouraged her to join this program to gain the knowledge and skills necessary for medical device innovation. During her time at SDSU she conducted research in Dr. Parag Katira’s computational laboratory which explored the bio-chemical pathways associated with the MICAL2 protein and the effects of its overexpression in cancer using a Python coded hybrid Boolean model. Her senior design capstone project is a joint effort between mechanical, electrical and computer engineering students to create an automated pouch opener and presenter for the medical device company Masimo. This project involves building a closed loop system that controls pneumatics and sensors through PLC programming to automate the process of packaging medical sensors which will be implemented into Masimo production facilities. Upon graduating, Jessica hopes to obtain a position at a medical device company in Southern California and plans to continue her education in a bioengineering graduate program.
