ASME 2019 E-Fest West

On March 15-17, members of ASME went to E-Fest West at the Fairplex in Pomona to compete in the Student Design Competition and the Human-Powered Vehicle Challenge. Our two SDC teams, led by chief engineer Dustin Ybarra, placed 5th and 10th out of 18 teams. HPVC, led by Aaron Eppstein, after overcoming several manufacturing obstacles, placed 15th out of 18 teams, including a strong performance in the drag race events. This was ASME’s first time ever competing in HPVC; it was a great learning experience, and we will be back with a vengeance next year! Beyond the competitions, E-Fest had many different seminars for attendees to learn from, and it was an overall great time for all those in attendance. Two of our members won awards as well! Sonia Goetschius placed 3rd in the Old Guard Poster Competition and Ian Brown placed 2nd in the Altair Design Optimization Competition. Our group consisted of 34 members, students of different age groups and majors all working together and supporting each other, as well as having fun together, allowing us to bond as a group. Special thanks to Chris Khoury, the Project Manager of ASME, who organized the weekend to be an overall success and ensured everything ran smoothly.
