Bio
Dr. Luca Carmignani received his Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences from the Joint Doctoral Program between University of California, San Diego, and San Diego State University in 2019. After pursuing his postdoctoral research at University of California, Berkeley in 2020-2022, he joined University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources in 2022-2024 as a Fire Advisor for the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) in Southern California. Throughout his career, he has conducted research on material flammability and environmental conditions that affect fire behavior at multiple scales. His research interests include vegetation-structure interactions in WUI fires, fire risks associated with plant traits, and the effect of ambient conditions and gravity on material flammability for fire safety onboard a spacecraft.
