Professor and Chair of Mechanical Engineering

Research Interest
Dr. Mehrabadi received his Ph.D. from Tulane in 1979. His teaching
and research interests are multidisciplinary in nature and span
the general field of analytical and computational modeling of the
mechanical behavior of materials. His special areas of interest
include consideration of microstructure in modeling the anisotropic
behavior of bulk materials and biological tissues. The effects of
porosity and its distribution on the strength of cancellous bone
(and other porous materials) is the subject of his most recent publication.
In other publications, Dr. Mehrabadi and his co-workers have studied
problems in liquid phase sintering, bulk materials handling, and
geomechanics. Prior to joining SDSU as the Mechanical Engineering
Professor and Chair, he held the position of Professor and Chair
of Mechanical Engineering at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Dr. Mehrabadi is a Fellow of the ASME and a member of SES, AAM,
and ASEE and serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal Mechanics
of Materials and the International Journal of Plasticity.
