Welcome to the website of the Department of Mechanical Engineering
at San Diego State University (SDSU), the largest university
in San Diego, and the fifth largest in California. Nationally,
SDSU ranks in the top 50 among all doctoral universities,
based on the Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index created
by Academic Analytics. As the new Chair of the Department
of Mechanical Engineering, I take pride in the fact that our
highly qualified faculty who are among the most productive
in terms of scholarly publications are also among the most
effective teachers in the College of Engineering and SDSU.
This has created an environment where both graduate and undergraduate
students are actively engaged in research at the cutting edge
of mechanical sciences and engineering. We are proud to offer
an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical
Engineering, as well as a variety of options for graduate
study.
Our mission is to prepare our graduates to apply basic and
advanced engineering knowledge and skills to the design, analysis
and research of engineering systems; to prepare them to compete
successfully in today's job market and for lifelong learning.
We pride ourselves on an educational experience that emphasizes
hands-on, team-based projects. While we provide instruction
in the state-of-the-art tools in mechanical engineering, we
also require a solid grounding in the fundamentals. Student
design projects emphasize real-world experiences, and are
often sponsored by industry.
For more detailed information about the laboratories, research
activities, and expertise of our faculty, please explore their
individual web pages. I hope you find the information at this
site useful and interesting. Please feel free to email
me any comments you may have about our website.
